Tree Removal in Blair

Tree work in and around the village of Blair, between the Grand River, Fountain Street and the Blair Road woodlands.

Blair is a nineteenth-century mill village that now sits inside Cambridge's boundary, and its lots are bigger and greener than anywhere else in the city. Properties back onto the Grand River floodplain and onto the wooded slopes along Blair Road, and that brings a third set of rules into play alongside the City's permit and the GRCA. Where the trees on a property form part of a woodland of one hectare or more, and the woodland boundary can run across property lines, the Region of Waterloo's Woodland Conservation By-law 08-026 requires a permit before cutting and takes precedence over the City's by-law for those trees; the Regional Forester at 519-580-0296 is the person to ask before clearing more than a hazard tree or two. The larger lots also mean some trees can be felled whole rather than dismantled, which helps the price, and there is usually room for a bucket truck or crane. Black walnut, oak, hickory and big old maples are the specimens here, worth preserving where they can be, and oaks are left unpruned from April to November. Dead ash along the river and the woodland edges is common and goes through the City's dead-tree request.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Cambridge tree permit apply in Ayr?

No. Ayr is in North Dumfries Township, so Cambridge's By-law 23-105 stops at the city boundary and the township's own requirements apply. The Region's Woodland Conservation By-law and the CFIA ash regulated area cover the whole region including North Dumfries. We confirm the rules for the address before quoting.

Is there a travel charge for Blair or Ayr?

No. The villages and township properties around Cambridge are quoted on the same terms as the city. The tree, the access and the paperwork set the price, not the distance.

Do you handle the permit application for me?

Yes, where one is needed. The arborist report, the photographs and the application go in together, and the neighbour's consent form is organised with you for a boundary tree. The City's application fee and any cash-in-lieu are paid to the City and shown separately on the quote.
